About the wood:
A true Quercus- Quercus alba, the white oak is the preferred oak for making casks and barrels due to the non porous nature of its wood. The insides of the barrels are charred black, mellowing the beverage and imparting the some of the characteristic flavors.

These barrels were used by a distillery in the south and then by a local beer brewery in Portland, Maine. The spoons highlight the industrial history of brewing and distilling showcasing the natural barrel patina, stamping and or charred inside with the beautiful natural grain of oak wood. In their third incarnation these utensils are sure to grace a rustic or modern kitchen wonderfully.
