About the wood:
A jack of all trades, red maple can be found growing anywhere from Canada to Florida in swamps, mountaintops or in natural sand dunes. The tree produces a sweet sap that can be boiled to make make maple syrup.

Our Red Maple comes from land just outside our studio in Alfred, Maine. I cut and process the Red Maple all onsite, some destined for lumber, some for spoons and some for firewood. Red maple is abundant here and often the trees are in poor health. Many of these trees are a result of years of “highgrading”- taking the best trees and leaving the rest. I have been making it a priority to remove unhealthy and damaged trees to make space and resources available for younger more vigorous trees. Where noted, some products contain “ambrosia” a staining of the white wood by the native ambrosia beetle
